Every time I talk in my sweet, soothing, happy voice to Owen, I get a dose of just how ridiculous I sound as Caleb repeats and imitates exactly what I say, exactly the way I say it.
I need to remember not to talk this way in public. :-o

Caleb Loves Random Things
Caleb has a habit of asking a random question, which I answer, and then he says "Oh, I love _____." <----- insert the random thing he asked the question about.
Here's an example:
I was washing him off with a wet washcloth after lunch today.
Caleb: Is that water dirty?
Me: No, it's clean water.
Caleb: Oh, I love clean water! (with a smile on his face).
Just in the past hour or so, he's also loved pictures, ducks, hot dogs, Sid the Science Kid, mowing the lawn, a badminton racket, and Lego's.
I love that he loves so many things. :)

Caleb Likes Beans
Today we had hot dogs and baked beans for lunch. Caleb cleaned his plate and then we had this exchange.
Caleb: Mom, I want more.
Me: Wow, you ate a lot! Do you want another hot dog?
Caleb: Yes, and more jelly beans!
Jelly beans, baked beans... close. :)

Caleb Speak & Easter Presents
Caleb has his own words for a few things. Some of them are are just that he can't quite pronounce the word, but not all of them. It's like he forgot the exact word for something so he just made up a replacement that sounds similar and will stick with his version, even if I try to correct him.
Here are a few examples:
Toilet = Turet
Lawnmower = Lawnbury
Hammer = Hamera (Sounds like a combination of hammer and camera)
Night Fury (the type of dragon on the movie "How to Train your Dragon") = Night Goody
He's funny. :)
In other news, my sister made these awesome bunnies for the boys for Easter and this adorable coffee cup sleeve for me. (And she didn't forget Clayton, but since he is a lot harder to knit for, he got a new kind of beer. Which was right up his ally!) Isn't she thoughtful & creative?

Caleb Learned the Real Meaning of Easter
I have had quite a time trying to explain Easter to Caleb and why we celebrate it. It's hard to explain death to a 3 year old, let alone resurrection and what that means for us.
So I have been trying to simplify it as much as possible but didn't really think it was sticking.
We hadn't discussed the true meaning of Easter yet today - not since yesterday morning. All talk today has been the Easter bunny and candy. Then we had one of the best conversations we've ever had:
Me: "Caleb, do you know why we celebrate Easter?"
Caleb: "Yes, because Jesus saved us."
That was it. A beautiful, simple and perfect answer. Nothing more needed to be said.
And then the mom tears started flowing. I adore Him (both Jesus & Caleb).

Happy Easter
In the midst of all the Easter basket glory this morning:
Clayton: Do you want to try and go potty?
Caleb: (as serious as he has ever been and with chocolate all over his face) No. I don't want to do anything.
He looooooved his Easter egg hunt and basket this morning. I've never seen him move so fast in the morning. :)
And let's not forget the real reason we celebrate today:
Romans 6:8-11
Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him. For we know that since Christ was raised from the dead, he cannot die again; death no longer has mastery over him. The death he died, he died to sin once for all; but the life he lives, he lives to God. In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus.
Happy Easter everyone!

Caleb Learns to Tell Time
Caleb just started trying to get a movie out when he should already be in bed. And then this happened:
Clayton: "Caleb! Do you know what time it is? Look at that clock up there. What does it say?"
(Caleb looks up at the clock)
Caleb: "Ticky, Ticky Tock."
I think he's got you there, Clayton. That is what a clock says. :)

Calebisms & Other Misc Happy Stuff
Calebisms:
Also, Clayton brought me an Easter Lily yesterday to cheer me up from all the stress. He's such an amazing man. I am so blessed. :)
Annnnd, Owen turned 12 weeks old on Tuesday. He's grown 3 inches in the last 3 weeks and has officially moved into the 6-9 month clothing. He's HUGE! lol He's such a happy little guy though. I can't get enough of him. :)
OH and on Friday, April 15, our niece Madison Grace Smith finally made her arrival. She makes #10 for the Smith grandkids. :) Something tells me #11 won't be far behind (but NOT from me)... :) :) :)
- This morning, I told Caleb I love him and he said "I'm proud of you!" I'm not sure what that was all about. lol
- The other night, Caleb wanted more ice in his drink. He was trying to ask for more "icicles" but instead he asked Clayton for more "ice pickles". :)
- Clayton and Caleb were having a conversation about Mawmaw and Pawpaw the other day. I'm not sure how the conversation went, but Caleb said "I love Mawmaw & Pawpaw. They're my best huggers." <3

UGH what a week...
So I am behind on posting by a few days but I have a good excuse this time... WE HAD A FREAKIN' FLOOD!
So it was raining REALLY hard on Tuesday. I woke up to an email from Clayton to keep an eye on the basement (we've had minor flooding issues in the past but nothing like this and we thought we'd fixed the problem). So I checked it a couple times and it was dry. The last time I checked it, it was dry and I came back upstairs and looked in the backyard. Our patio was about 3 inches underwater. The water was flowing from the back to the front of the house like a freakin' river. I had never seen anything like it. So I called Clayton at work and told him and said "It looks pretty bad. What should I do?" He said it should be fine, but to look at the drain at the bottom of our driveway and make sure it isn't clogged. (The driveway goes downhill into our garage and if the drain clogs, it floods our garage and basement). So I got off the phone and opened the door to the basement and the landing of the stairs was already filled with water. In less than five minutes it went from completely dry, to most of the basement being about 2 inches under water.
Our basement is partially finished and the finished room is Caleb's playroom - which of course was a mess because he's 3 and upon entering the room, he immediately dumps all of the toy boxes out onto the floor. So all of his toys were floating in brown, yucky water, as were my piles of sorted laundry. I ran back upstairs and called Clayton back and frantically told him to come home. By the time he and his dad got there, there was about EIGHT inches of water in our entire basement (except our walk in closet had the door shut, so only about 2 inches of water got in there... whew). And the water outside the garage, at the bottom of the driveway, was up to about 2 feet high when Clayton got home. It even dented our 1 year old garage door. Grrrr.
With the help of Clayton's amazing family, we have spent the last several days doing 500 loads of laundry, ripping out carpet, throwing things away, cleaning... and we have soooo much more to do. *sigh* Among the most important things that got wet: several of our wedding photos (we only have about 10 photos from our wedding so this was especially sad), some books we got from Clayton's grandmother when she passed away last summer, Clayton's drawings/paintings from when he was younger, ALL of our mortgage paperwork (don't even get me started on why this was on the bottom shelf of a bookcase in the basement...grrr), about half of Caleb's art from daycare (of course it was all of my favorite pieces that I'd put into an album), and the list goes on. The toys, furniture, etc can be replaced but it's the memorabilia stuff that makes me the most sad.
And no... we didn't have flood insurance. Apparently most people don't. Lesson learned.
Here are a few photos after Clayton, his dad, and Maria been working on it. I didn't think to take photos of it when it was at it's highest. But you can see from the debris on the side of the garage door (the last photo) how high it got.

Caleb Learned to Compromise
I got an email this morning and my phone made "the noise". Clayton and I have a disagreement as to what this noise is, but let me just say that it is called "Tweet" in the notification section.
Anyway, here's how it went down:
Caleb: "Mom! What's that noise?"
Me: "That's my phone. What does it sound like?"
Caleb: "A bird!"
Me: "Exactly! That's what I think too. Daddy thinks it sounds like a robot, but it's definitely a bird, huh?"
Caleb: "No, it sounds like a robot."
Me: "What?! You just said it sounds like a bird?"
Caleb: "It sounds like a robot getting a bird."
And there you have it, he has learned to compromise. :)
But Clayton is crazy, it's definitely a bird. Final answer.

Daddy: Fixer of ALL things
Caleb noticed a big chip in my toenail polish today. He gasped and said: "MOM! It's broken!! Don't worry, Daddy will fix it when he gets home."
Clayton, put on your big girl panties, I think you're going to paint my toenails tonight! ;)
Aaaaannd my new lens finally arrived.
Isn't she beautiful?

So logically, here are a few practice shots taken with the new lens:
PS - There is nothing more sexy than a man taking care of his children, yes? ;)
Goodnight, my dears.

Flowers for Mom
Clayton & Caleb went to the store the other night, and came home with these beautiful flowers for me. Caleb picked them out and he was so excited. He asks me to smell them about 6 times a day. ♥
Also, my new camera lens is supposed to be delivered today (so expect an update on that later) and I'm hysterically excited. I have probably looked out the window for the UPS man about 250 times so far. :) :) :)

Caleb (to Clayton): I love you big man.
Clayton: I love you too!
Caleb: No, say "I love you too little man."

He's allowed, he's very special.
Last night, Clayton yelled at Caleb for messing with something he's not supposed to and Caleb said very calmly "Dad, I'm a very special kid."
I think he might be getting too much praise. lol
And despite Caleb and Owen both being crabby and less than cooperative today, I was able to snap a couple of pictures of them. Owen is 11 weeks old today. I know I say it in nearly every post, but time is going so fast! :(

Catching up some more... April 2011
Ok.. continuing the catch up post, here are the highlights from the first few weeks of April...
April 1-3:
Caleb stayed with Mawmaw & Pawpaw (the longest we've ever been away from him.. it was rough), and Clayton, Owen and I went down to Nashville for my best friend, Claire's wedding. Claire and I met our freshman year of college at Union University (nearly TEN years ago.. yikes). I had the honor of taking her and Nick's engagement photos this fall, and also as being a bridesmaid in their wedding. It was a gorgeous ceremony and absolutely everything about the weekend was wonderful. Claire is one of those amazing friends that I can not see for 5 years, and when we see each other, it's like no time passed at all. She knows all my faults and I can completely be myself around her and never have to worry what she will think of me. I adore her and I'm so happy that she found someone as awesome as Nick. They are perfect for each other! :)
It really DOES look like a train! He's so smart!
April 10:
Clayton and Owen and I were laying in bed first thing in the morning. We were talking to Owen and he was smiling a ton and getting really excited. He was propped up on some pillows so he was kind of sitting up and he got really excited, smiled really huge, lifted his arms up and leaned forward towards me. It was so cute! It was the first time he has really lifted his arms up to be picked up. :)
Whenever we wake up in the morning, I put him in bed with me to feed him (he's in his bassinet until then), and it's absolutely my favorite time of the day with him. He's always so happy and cuddly!
April 11:
Caleb woke up about 8:30 am and called for Clayton. He had already left for work so I went in Caleb's room and he said "NO I want Daddy!" I told him that daddy went to work and he got up and walked into our bedroom with me. He looked around and didn't see Clayton anywhere. He turned back around towards me with his lip stuck out and put his arms up for me to hold him and said "I'm sad." It was so sweet!! I practically melted into a puddle right there on the floor.
A little bit later, he was watching cartoons on the couch and I was still in our room feeding Owen. It started raining really hard and he came in the the bedroom and said "MOM! It's raining bery huge!" lol I love how he describes things!
And lastly for today, Caleb and I had this conversation a little while ago:
(He pointed at our point-and-shoot camera)
Caleb: Can I play with that?
Me: No, it's not a toy. Maybe when you get a little bigger, I'll buy you your own camera.
Caleb: Ok.
(He was quiet for a minute)
Caleb: Can we go buy my camera right now?
Me: No, not right now. Cameras cost a lot of money.
(He was quiet again for another minute)
Caleb: Can we go get my money out of my room and buy a camera right now?
Haha. He's so stinkin' smart. AND he likes cameras and instant gratification just like his mom. ;)

April 5:
One of my Cincinnati BFF's, Rachel, is moving to Germany and a group of us got together to say goodbye to her and her husband, Jeff. Originally, Rachel was my boss and was the kind soul who hired me for photography and marketing at Signature Hardware in 2007. She eventually moved into another, more awesome, position with the company and became one of my best good friends. She always let me vent in her office, laughed at my bizarre zipper jokes, and even came over for lunch with Caleb, Owen and I once a week after I left S.H. I'm really excited for her and Jeff and their next big adventure (Jeff is in the military), but I'm going to miss her terribly! :(April 8:
Our oldest nephew, Ethan, turned NINE today! When Clayton and I started dating, Ethan was only 3. I can't believe he's 9 already! Holy cow!
We saw Ethan yesterday at Clayton's parents house and I asked him if he had a good birthday and he said "I threw up 6 times." Yikes! That is no way to spend your birthday. Poor guy!
We're going to officially celebrate his and his little sister, Aryannah's birthdays coming up this Sunday. Hopefully his birthday party day will be much better than his actual birthday.
Caleb is really into counting these days. Today he counted the tulips (and luckily I had my camera on hand to capture it.)
I'm so in love with him, he really melts my heart on a daily basis. <3
April 9:
Caleb was playing with his Lincoln Logs (or "Winkin' Wogs" as he calls them), and came and told me he made a train. I kind of brushed it off with something like "That's cool, buddy" and went on about my business.
A little while later, I walked into the living room and saw this on the floor:
It really DOES look like a train! He's so smart!

Catching up... March 2011
Things got really busy and I have fallen behind again. Darnit. Here's some of the highlights from the last few weeks of March.
March 19/20:
Caleb turned THREE! I can't believe he's 3 years old already. It's going by sooo fast! We had a nice day at home the day of his birthday. We got him a sandbox and he spent a good amount of the day outside playing in it. Then on the 20th, he had a wonderful robot-themed birthday party at Mawmaw & Pawpaw's house with all of his cousins and Aunts & Uncles. He had a blast! (PS- Clayton made that amazing robot cake. Imressed? Me too!)

March 23:
Clayton and Caleb are building train tracks on the living room floor.
Caleb: NO, Dad!
Clayton: What? I'm going to build you a good track.
Caleb: No, that's not good at all.
Caleb: NO, Dad!
Clayton: What? I'm going to build you a good track.
Caleb: No, that's not good at all.
Burned by a 3 y/o on his track building abilities. Ouch! :p
March 25:
Owen turned 2 months old. He is smiling a TON. He's such a happy little guy, I just adore him.
I also some pics of the boys today. I set up my backdrops and lights and we had a little mini photo session. Caleb was such a ham... and Owen, well he was not really in the mood so I didn't get many pics of him. lol
March 28:
Both boys went for wellness check ups at the doctor (Caleb's 3 year, and Owen's 2 month). Caleb was 39.8 lbs and I think 3'3" - in the 95th percentile for height and weight. He had to get one shot but the doctor said he's doing awesome!
Owen was 14lbs 7 oz (95th percentile for weight) and 22" long (10th percentile for height). Dr. Ramesh called him a "shorty" and said he mostly likely got my genes for height. Poor kid. She also said we need to keep an eye on his belly button. She said it sticks out like it does because it's a hernia and as long as we can push it back in easily, it's fine. She said 98% of babies get it and it usually goes away on it's own (Caleb had it too and his went away - but they never told me any of this). But if if doesn't go away, a small percentage of babies need surgery on it. That worried me a little bit but she said she really wouldn't lose any sleep over it. (And by the time I'm updating this, it's already starting to back in. Yesterday I noticed it looks a ton better)
Another thing with Owen is that he favors laying his head to one side over the other and it's causing a flat spot on that side (he's done that since he was born and I noticed it but never thought much of it). She said to try to do tummy time as much as possible (pretty much any time he's awake), but she also showed me some neck exercises I need to do with him two to three times a day to stretch his neck out and strengthen it so he can turn it to the other side more easily. She said if I do all that and it's not any better by his 4 month appointment, than he may need to go to physical therapy for it. :/ Poor little guy. He also had to get 2 shots today. :(

I nearly freaked out when my Shark Vac-then-Steam mop shut off mid vacuum today. Caleb wasn't worried a bit though. He assured me that "Daddy will fix it with a screw driver when he gets home." haha!
But don't worry, I changed the filter and she's up and running again just like new. WHEW!
